Process

Never in his wildest dreams did Robert believe that today he would be supporting himself by means of kinetic sculptures created from glass and metal. He was under the impression that careers are supposed to be serious --- not fun filled days building mobiles in a studio crammed to the ceiling with colored glass and spools of wire. And, best of all, his new-found career combines several of Robert's longtime interests including metalsmithing, space exploration and marble collecting.

Robert free-hand twists a frame of wire to begin each mobile. Ends are hammered and shaped to prepare them for soldering. Embellishments of colorful glass, sterling silver, stainless steel, rhodium and anodized alloys are added to the form. Although Robert constructs limited series of designs, each piece remains distinctively individual. Robert's work is constantly evolving as he discovers new forms, materials and designs.
